Unbelieveable, I agree that individual people COULD take the actions in their daily lives that would resolve all these problems but it just won't happen not without divine intervention; the evidence is that in lots of measurable ways we have become more wasteful and destructive than we were in the past. Basic to the way our present economic scheme is structured are rewards and punishments that just work contrary to our long term well being. Business is profit driven and hence business seeks always to expand consumption. I don't pretend to know what answer to this contradiction is but I do believe I can see the train wreck coming. You know, by any reasonable measure we have not really be at this very long. We tend to think of our system of things, our country as "very old"; it is not! For example; my grandmother, who largely raised me, well her father was alive at a time when very many people were still alive who were here at the time of the founding of this republic, which is really the first modern republic. So, in a sense...the very origin of this place is within living memory, and by any measure not long at all. So don't ever think that things CANNOT change....heck, this just started a little while ago. WSR

Until individuals realize that what they are looking for is within them the possibility of any real change or improvement is non-existent.

This is why the people need "leaders". It is also why the people need laws. How many laws would be required if everyone simply applied Kant's Categorical Imperative in their daily lives?
