I'll try. Are you saying that up to 1995 the SMP market wasn't lucrative? I seem to recollect IBM doing rather better than breaking even, mostly from SMP minis and mainframes prior to 1995. DEC, SUN, etc. were also managing to not lose money in what was closer to the market for P5/P6 SMP systems (the entry level SMP server market).

It is interesting to note that the P-PRO core was basically a footnote until the PII was released 1.5 years later. I think the P4 will do better than that, but it may not be much better. And this time there is much more competition.
