Carl, on those 59 votes, I am not sure what it means. As far as i understood, they first look at the ballot to make sure it either Bush or gore and pile them, the doubtful (pregnant, hanging, dimpled etc. chads) are counted later by the canvassing board (at least that is my understanding). I wonder if the 59 involves just the straight Gore/Bush split, or if it also counts already all the doubtful. If it does not, then all these might still be coming up. I wish the media would be more accurate in their report. They described this partition of the counting without commenting on the sequential timing (well, one reported said that the "doubtful" are kept to the end). If the latter is the case, then we might an "end run" surprise, otherwise, I agree with you, Bush probably won.

I also wish the media be clear about those absentee ballots, for instance, it should be easy to find out what percentage of all these are "military" and is the rejection rate amongst the military higher than the rest. It seems to me that the media is doing a lot of harm with that partial reporting, simply inflaming a lot of people (like I) that have a lot of respect for the military and would hate to see them singled out for miscounting their votes. I'd like to know the real facts there.

As for the absentee ballots, if your explanation is correct, than of course the Republican are crying "Wolf" while benefiting from the high rejection rate.
