*OT* Oh, believe me, I'm well aware of that...and of Chavez's leftist leanings....I don't rule anything out with him....one big plus however: Venezuela does have a multi-decade history of democracy (albeit corrupt) and western (read American) cooperation in business. Although the vast majority of Venezuelans are poor, they are also surprisingly entreprenurial (its quite a black market/barter system that's set up), and not necessarily anti-American...the "screw the Yankees/they've screwed us" thing only goes so far in Venezuela-goes over better in other parts of LA....I would argue that Venezuelans poor have had a greater exposure to the U.S. then most poor in Latin America, and they are more pragmatic...but they want to better themselves too (of course), and to the extent that Chavez can do that, they support him..Chavez after 5 years in power may be a different Chavez than now...unfortunately that is still several years away..

One thing's for sure: Chavez KNOWS he can't turn too far away from the business elite in Venezuela- they are too important a class to totally disenfranchise..
