Mark, I think this is a very bullish snapshot. The down part (greater than 21 GB) is very expected, and I would be shocked if that were not so. Obviously, for the first time in this industry, you can get 20GB on one platter. So prices on the older multi-platter models have to drop. In fact those models have to be discontinued, since there is no justification for their production any more. So I would expect clearance sales and dumping of the remnants.

The category to watch now is the single platter models. These drives should not be subject to any influence other than supply/demand. There are no more economies to be wrung out of them. Except maybe when a single platter/2 head drive goes to one head. As in the 10GB capacity. I guess there is another $6 to go in that category.

Thanks for your continued generosity in sharing your results.

Regards,
Sarmad

Thank you for your diligent efforts in tracking drive prices. I appreciate the work you've done, so please forgive me for asking for a little more.

It would be very interesting to see the results of your survey from a different perspective. Would it be possible to show the change in single platter drives vs. multi platter drives? Or cost/MB for single platter vs. multiplatter?

Do you have a graphical depiction of your price change data that we can access?

Thank you for any additional effort you decide to make.
