Re: "So why was it up to Gore to 'exercise the fairness bone' and not Bush?"

Right, good question. I say Gore, But Bush could have asked for all counties too. It was a new situation no one had planned for. The machines are a twist. But Gore had lost a standard re-count, finding things still close. He KNEW there were Republican counties out there, and he THOUGHT he could gain advantage by beating someone to the punch, but in unchartered waters, one ought to play fair, to survive. His grubbing will never stand.

I've gotta tell you though, it goes deeper. Bush argues that these subjective hand-counts may recover votes if they are used uniformly for both candidates(he's been arguing this for a week with in his Federal case, just like this)but the are invitations to unfairness and/or innaccuracies that wouldn't otherwise be possible. Marked ballots are far more suitable for objective hand-counting, far more...like the majority of ballots used in Texas.

Bottom line, either man could have seen this. Bush missed his opportunity, so did Gore(he picked partisan counties like a hardball County Grubber), they both missed the chance to be statesmen and fair.

So, should I blame Al Gore? Bush didn't figure it out soon enough either. Either man could have prevented this. Of course I blame Gore too, he still claims fairness, is still willing to get in this way, when he KNOWS now, it was a hardball unfairness he sought for himself. And for Bush? he was ahead according to the status Quo for Presidential elections. I swear it's logical, it was Gore's onus as the guy dragging us into uncharted waters, to carefully examine just what he was asking for.

You may say politics is hardball, but not like this. Some court won't stand for it, if it is wise.

One main message this country demands by its constitution, is to be fair. We all know that. Our highest courts come back to that as often as possible, because they are supposed to.

Maybe Congress will choose Alan Keyes, how'd ya like that?...hehehe. You could say, THANKS George and Al.
