I may come off sounding too self-righteous myself, but I do not believe in giving money to everyone I see on the street with their hands out. I do not want my money to end up on drugs and alcohol, and it is tough to tell with some of them. I know many are there through circumstances beyond their control. Again, how can you differentiate?

There used to be a guy standing at an intersection on my way back from work everyday with a sign that read "Please help me. Willing to work". But he looked so filthy! One day the light stopped me long enough to have a chat with him. I suggested that he should try to shave and clean up a little and see if that would make a difference. I am sure he thought about it, because he 'disappeared' for a few days. The next time he showed up at that intersection, it took me a while to recognize him. He was clean and looking sharp. You know what, his circumstances must have changed - I have not seen him standing there for at least six months now.

Chris - Ummmm .. I did not move him into my house! :-)
