Paul will be delighted to hear that the closing words of the review are that the P4 has a lot of "potential".

The Pentium 4 surely has a lot of potential, and we're hoping that potential actually gets realized before people disown the chip entirely.

We ran our benchmarks straight out of the box on standard, everyday software, meaning we are not using any specialized Pentium-4 optimized software. Due to the differences in the processor architectures, many pieces of software will have to be re-compiled to take advantage of the Pentium 4, meaning older non-compiled software may run slower than it should be running at. This means some of the benchmarks may look slow now, but these companies may put out Pentium 4 specialized patches to take full advantage of the chip
