Re: "The current stepping has awful IPC performance that means it is solidly beaten by an Athlon clocked 20% slower on the productivity applications used by 90% of all users 90% of the time"

Dan yesterday you were being dense today you're being silly(at best). If you think you will ever notice the difference in wordprocessor, powerpoint etc performance between P4 and Athlon you have some mighty fast fingers. A 500MHz Celeron/Duron would probably give the same computing experience if that was all you intended to do. The IPC may be lower, we'll have to wait and see but the frequency advantage is significant and will continue to grow. The difference will show up in highend applications which most of us will be doing on the computing platform of the future. Your mileage may vary.
