A pretty good point, and one I haven't heard expressed (or at least, not expressed so well) before.

Incidentally, this whole mess about the military ballots is awful. Federal law states that military mail *must* be free, and florida law states that military ballots *must* have postmarks. While it's true that the military could put postmarks on mail they don't charge for, I have to figure that federal law is controlling here, and that it's illegitimate (albeit inadvertently) for florida law to disenfranchise these men & women.

While allowing late ballots with no postmarks does open the door to fraud, I have to believe that those people generous and patriotic enough to risk their lives for the country wouldn't sign a false affidavit attesting to the date the ballot was signed.
