Amazon must have noticed that their brand does not have enough "pull". Customers are not
coming back or not surfing outside small areas. So they decided to hit them with a "push"
catalogue on the hopes that they come and buy more.

Alomex,

It is clear you do understand marketing. I agree entirely with your post. It has not been made clear to me how large or small a catalogue this may be. Also, the type of photography, papaer, etc. and the distribution costs.

This situation continues to become more bizzare. One of the initital claims of Amazon was the selection that was so large it could not ever fit in a building. Catalogues have item count limitations. I don't know if Amazon is mailing these to their exisiting customer or to potential customers.

The 44% loss in active customers is way above the norm for any succesful retailer. We lose 8% years from relocation of people, health problems, financial problems, etc. However they are far replaced by new active customers. Amazon is growing new active customers quickly but losing customers way too quickly too.

Glenn

I always thought it was broader than that: Pull- give discount coupons to consumers to get them to buy (pull) your product.

Push- Give wholesalers and retailers invcentives to get them to empahsize (push) your product over that of your competitors, whose the wholesalers and retailers may also sell.
