Israel's Tower Semiconductor Gets $250M Govt Plant Grant

JERUSALEM (Dow Jones)--Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (TSEM, news, msgs) has received a $250-million government grant toward construction of its planned $1.25 billion plant in northern Israel, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said Sunday.

Construction is due to begin within weeks, a ministry official said.

On Thursday, Tower said its shareholders approved the company's plan to build a second wafer fabrication plant in Migdal Ha'emek, Israel. Alliance Semiconductor Corp. (ALSC, news, msgs), SanDisk Corp. (SNDK, news, msgs) and Toshiba Corp. (J.TOS, news, msgs) already have made investments
