Re Chad:
An edible vegetable product formed from native trees by grinding, crushing, and bleaching- then mixed with finest selected clays and rolled into flat sheets from which the rice-sized chads are punched.
Flavor and texture: Similar to hominy grits but with more tang, resembling oatmeal that has been stored in a cedar chest.
Uses: After soaking overnite, chad can be used as a rice substitute in tomato-rice soup or to replace the far more costly wild rice commonly found in Turkey dressing.Your guests will never know the difference.
Making your own chad: In lieu of ordering expensive chad from Florida, you may find it more economical to make your own chad from the ballots in which they are
secured. Simply drop a used ballot in front of a high-speed house fan and release it. This frees the 20 to 250 pieces of loosened chad, which can then be picked up from the floor using a clean hand-held vacuum.
Good cooking
