Big difference, though. A vast majority of French and Dutch are anti-clerical and few actually go to church.

In Germany you can opt to pay a tax or not that supports church work (some 90% + chose to pay it). You then are on the church roles and get to be married and buried among other things. The church plays a huge role in various social work programs, including education for various handicapped people, which I worked at for 2 years.
In Texas we have had huge fights over prayer before football games. It takes about a minute and in my experience is a generally non-descript appeal for safety and sportsmanship. Big Hullabaloo. But I notice the Austin and Dallas city councils have prayer before every meeting, even documented on television. Not a peep. Why is this not picketed?
