"...in most part thanks to Rebels" - there are altogether too many rebels in this world and not enough revolutionaries imho ... the two have quite distinct effects ... in the whole of the Revolución of México there was one revolucionario, Zapata - the rest were rebels, interested mainly in carving for themselves empire like that of Díaz and his cronies ... power and wealth for me instead of the other guy, that's what it was if you look at what they did instead of what they said ... they shot Zapata ... who might not have made a great presidente for long anyway, he was an uncompromising illiterate with some unfortunate peasant traits, being harsh with women and holding a firm pre-industrial world view being two of them.

Colombia has a lot more than the two factions - the government which has factions within it, the narcotraficantes, the paramilitaries, the FARC guerrillas ... and they all have copious amounts of brand new US arms and ammunition ... then there's the people, whose sons have no option but to join one of the above when their crops are destroyed by the clever yanqui chemical technology ... the whole Plan Colombia thing is just an attempt to out-bribe the drug forces, and as long as there is multi-billion dollar gringo demand for cocaine the few billions the US is paying will do nothing more than cause further suffering to the people on the ground whose idea of a great day is being able to feed their family.
