sandintoes, The concept of personal empowerment is something that is not understood by the Democrats. They want the power and want the electorate to believe that they cannot empower themselves, but need government to do it for them. Look at the messages spewed by Gore and the more liberal Jackson. It is not empowerment, but a form of slavery. It is not a positive message that you can do things for yourself with the proper help of the community and friends and family, but that you need the government to assist you in every step you take. That government is not about to try to get you off the rolls...their jobs depend on you. Unfortunately, it is a job justification that requires this point of view. Such a divisive (sp) view in the end is too bad. The amount of money wasted in this nation of ours on paperwork and processing of ridiculous data is extreme. Heck, just look at the field of tax law. The tax laws in this country are such that it is, IMO, a very uneven and unfair way of conducting taxation. A lot of people can afford to hire tax professionals. Those professionals can use the reams of tax law to help their clients pay just what the government demands of them. However, those that cannot hire a tax professional and believe they can do it themselves, or worse yet, those that hire tax professionals that don't take their work seriously and don't understand that it is extremely complex and difficult to apply correctly in all circumstances are being short changed. The real thing here is that the Federal tax is in most cases your largest expenditure for the year. One would think this ought to be a fair and just system. It is not. It ought to be completely reformed so that anyone can figure out the amount of tax they need to pay without the use of professionals. It ought to be reformed so that I know that what I pay and what you pay are what was required of us. I am certain that this applies to many other government run operations. If the liberals wish to feel good about themselves and feel that they are doing their part to help others, let's leave the government out of it. Get up and go volunteer at your local community shelters, and pantries. Give your money to charities where you deem they are going to serve the community best. I wish they would stop damning the rest of us along with them by voting Democrat and therefore believing they are doing their part. We have to change this thinking that government is the answer, because if government is the answer, the question was seriously flawed. -Scott
