I don't think anyone is naive enough to the gov would actually eliminate a tax and not cover for it somewhere else.

Naive ?

Well... if the people are naive enough to cry wolf to the hyenas so they "release some crums" from the oil reserves, to "releive the pressure" on the world oil prices... and further naive, to believe it....

AND

The same people are putting up (it appears) with the charade of the election, without being concerned about the reputation it is causing to the "leadership" of the only super-power left in the world....

Then...

I guess the same people is naive enough to allow the taxes (that represent 28 % of the total cost of gas at the pump) to be charged to them....

The real question is... why would the government (state and federal) continues to tax the people at such levels that are the SAME as those prior to the days of the present ones where we are experiencing SURPLUSES.

The SURPLUS DOES NOT belong to the government. It belongs to the people. They have no "implied" right to it... THEY MUST return it (after a reasonable payment against the deficit.)

It is not a matter of "where else" are they going to tax us. They already tax us plenty...

Federal & State Income tax, excise tax, sales tax, property tax, cigarrete tax, wine tax.... -gax tax- etc etc....

The first question to ask is:

Why are we being taxed, and how is the tax revenue is being used ?

Just because ?

Just because it has been this way before ?

Just because we allow the politicians to waste tax revenue ?

If we are to determine why are we paying the price we are paying, we need to find out exactly why the price has reached the price it has... before we start believing the hyenas that:

1. It is the evil Oil companies who are colluding to keep prices high (not so)

2. It is the Middle eastern countries via the even more evil OPEC cartel who is doing it. (not really as most of the imported oil comes from Canada, Mexico (non OPEC) Venezuela, Saudi Arabia (OPEC members).

I believe full disclosure includes defining who truly puts the burden of the cost to the retail public, and in which way such burden is utilized.

Nothing naive about that. (unless we just do not question it and then we just "shut up and like it")
