In addition, Motorola will include two new offerings -- wireless applications and consulting services. The announcement marks the second GSM expansion contract awarded by the Zhejiang Branch of China Mobile Communications Corporation (Zhejiang Mobile) this year. The first contract worth US$53 million was awarded in June. Under the terms of the contract, which also involves China Eastern Communications Company Limited (Eastcom), Motorola will integrate its market-leading Horizonmacro GSM infrastructure solution for macrocellular (wide-area) coverage and capacity at 900MHz in four major cities in the province. The expected date of completion is the first quarter of next year. The expansion is designed to increase network capacity by 370,000, or a total capacity of 2.8 million subscribers. In addition to the network expansion, Motorola also plans to break new ground in China by supplying Zhejiang Mobile with wireless applications including location-based services, which are becoming increasingly more popular with mobile handset users. Early next year, Zhejiang Mobile will focus on development of a wireless portal to facilitate email traffic and the wireless delivery of news. Motorola's consulting services offering will cover areas such as market analyses for wireless applications, market strategy, business modeling, and assistance with the technological complexities of customer billing. Zhejiang, located on China's eastern coast, is one of the most economically developed regions in the country. With 4.76 million mobile subscribers, Zhejiang Province is second only to China's Guangdong Province, with some 9.6 million cellular phone users. Motorola's market-leading Horizonmacro GSM solution provides wide-area coverage from transceivers that are link-balanced for optimum performance. Its small size, easy expansion capability, and readiness for the new mobile data General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and dual band (GSM900/1800MHz) implementation provide flexibility for the future. Eastcom has licensing and joint venture agreements with Motorola GTSS to manufacture, distribute and provide service for Motorola GTSS's GSM and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) cellular infrastructure products within China. Eastcom has been supplying Motorola GTSS digital cellular equipment in China since 1995. About Motorola Motorola, Inc.
