Your site asked me for the origin of the whole nine yards.

it claimed it was the capacity of a concrete truck.

I've always heard it came from fighter pilots whose machine gun ammunition belts were 27 feet long, so to shoot the whole belt was to give the enemy the whole nine yards.

Anybody have a basis for the true derivation?
