The rotate left instruction is, on the side, almost never used, anywhere. That it is used in rc5 makes it an intellectual curiousity, valid, in fact, only for rc5 users.

You keep saying this but you don't show any proof. RC5 is very similar to a lot of encryption code people use these days. Are you sure SSL and other https encryption schemes are not very heavily using ROL ? What other proof do you have which shows ROL is not being used ?
