Hi Bob,

That is an interesting story which you related via Nemer's post, many thanks... I think there are several basic differences between that situation and today's, but it does demonstrate the cold fact that there are shenanigans and mischievious goings on anytime people are involved.....<g> we need to be careful of that... I also think that we don't quite have the same severity in today's situation... if so, it has not yet been reliably documented..... maybe tomorrow.....<g>

Thank you. Bland feels he is in pretty good company:

"If anybody saw William Safire (a conservative writer)on Meet the Press this morning, I thought that he had a very good perspective on this mess. He said that, essentially, we had an election and it was a tie. It was a tie in every respect. The House is essentially tied; the Senate is essentially tied; the popular vote was essentially tied and Florida (and thus the electoral vote) were tied. He said that the perspectives of the two sides in deciding how to break this tie are not outrageous from either side. He also pointed out, and how right he is, that we are really lucky that we are a country that, in the case of a tie, looks to the lawyers and the courts instead of the generals and the armies."
