5dave22:

AMD is selling all the product it can make at the moment according to my interpretation of the recent conference comments. After the limP4 PR fury subsides, it will become obvious to all that the 1.2 gig Athy/DDR combo is, by far, the best price/performaer in the marketplace, and such price/performance will not go unnoticed by the OEM's...Let the limP4 have its day in the sun today...I suspect many cloudy days lie in its future!!!

"Niceguy, AMD is doing nothing targeting the consumer to counter P4. GTW is now selling a 1.4 P4 computer for $1999. A similar 1.2 Athlon is about $2264 (reduced for monitor and HD size). But the P4 has 128/800RDRAM compared to 128/133SDRAM. And the OEMs are hyping P4 in a big way. Consumers have never heard of Anand or JC. I hope you're diversified."

No Dave you have it all wrong. INTC cannot compete and is an Edsel of a company and AMD will be at $75.00 by 12/31...as ng has promised us many months back. Leaving out sarcasm I would expect decent performance from both stocks in December...maybe $27.00 for AMD and $50.00 or so for INTC. And at this point I would take that.

Dave, Re: GTW is now selling a 1.4 P4 computer for $1999.

This is a quite impressive offer IMO: It has PC800 RDRAM and a GeForce 2 MX (compared to the similar priced HP system with PC600 RDRAM and a TNT2 Pro). I wonder how good the margins are for Gateway for this system compared to an 1.1 GHz system for the same price?
