andreas, PPro was SMP right off the bat. That was important for Workstations.

Well... There are always the extremists. In this case the competitive Q3 players (like those in PGL) that will do literally anything to get more fps. Believe me, they do NOT run in 1024x768x32. Most actually run in 640x480x16 just to get the game more "smooth". Oh well, they don't exactly constitute are large group compared to more conventional gamers.
