Sure, but does it matter? So what if Intel can only take it to 1.8GHz before running into heat problems. Intel's "first-pass" processors usually don't need to scale all that much. Sure, they are being pressured much more now than they have been for a long, long time (since the P5 launch), but we all know that they can't make enough P4s on .18mu process to meet market demands anyway. So they still need the PIII for now. When the P4 gets its .13mu shrink, then matters become serious.

For now, Intel is laying the foundation (as usual). Time will tell if the building crumbles.
