JimC,

LOL! I'll never tell. BTW I just got off the phone with Robert Putnam myself so I thought I'd post the gist of my conversation with him.

The SOFTWARE in the TREO will be ready for the launch of the player in January or February. The PROTOTYPE shown at COMDEX was tooled by Hango just for the show and is NOT the final product. EDIG had successful meetings with SEVERAL OEM's including brand name CONSUMER ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURERS, PC MANUFACTURERS, and OTHERS who were VERY IMPRESSED with the features offered by the TREO. There is NOTHING in the market at the moment that can compete with it, I repeat NOTHING. The CASING is flexible at the request of the OEM. It can have the look and feel of whatever the OEM desires and different features can be added such as an FM receiver. The TREO uses a DSP, it can be a TI DSP or a DSP from ANOTHER COMPANY. Sounds to me like there are OTHER COMPANIES out there who wish to compete with TI and that EDIG will be involved with them. RP also stated that some PC OEM's are looking to bundle the MP2000 with their machines as well. He said OEM's are beginning to feel as though the time for a milti-codec/DRM device is fast approaching and next year they expect enough on line music to be available to make this viable in the multi format approach. He also stated that the casing of the MP2000 was flexible as to its appearance as well and that if an OEM wished it could easily be changed. With regards to DIGITAL 5 RP stated that they have been following e.DIGITAL around for years trying to copy everything they do but to date their products have not been well received nor have they worked as well as advertised. He doesn't know if TI is involved with them at present but he reaffirmed that TI and EDIG continue to enjoy a very positive relationship.

Cheers.
