Relative to P4-Rambus, how will P4 perform with DDR and SDRAM?
I know this is a tough one...

Elmer,

Joe, do you really need a faster word processor? I don't.

I can use a processor that helps me in software development, and a processor that runs my applications fast.

P4 is not the best at running these applications compared competing processors. A 50% increase in clock speed over Pentium 3 didn't produce much of an improvement in this type of applications.

I am not saying P4 is bad. I am sure it beats my Celeron processor on all applications, but when buying a new processor, there are better choices.

They have a ~30% advantage now and they are competitive now on old code without the benefit of software optimizations.

Intel has 25% advantage in clock speed and a significant deficit in performance.

33% more headroom on the current process while AMD's wheels are about to fall off.

Here is my opinion on the headroom argument: Message 14026893

As far as AMD's wheels falling off, on the contrary, AMD is about to get a new set of wheels, or should I say legs, with their Pony line of processors.
