Re: Pac-10 - Tough Conference & Tough on Coaches Too.

>> Southern Cal Reportedly Will Fire Coach Hackett On Sunday

Saturday's 38-21 loss to Notre Dame reportedly will be the last for embattled Southern California coach Paul Hackett.

The Los Angeles Daily News reported that Hackett will be fired on Sunday, ending his unsuccessful three-year tenure. Hackett is in the middle of a five-year contract and the Daily News is reporting that he will receive a buyout of $750,000.

Hackett is just 19-18 over three seasons since replacing the fired John Robinson in 1997. The Trojans are just 11-13 over the past two seasons.

Hackett was fired once before as a college coach. He was dismissed by Pittsburgh in 1992 after posting a 13-20-1 record over three seasons. He was offensive coordinator for the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs for five seasons before being hired by USC.

USC would be the third Pac-10 school looking for a coach after the season. Arizona State fired Bruce Snyder earlier this month and Arizona coach Dick Tomey surprisingly announced his resignation on Friday. <<

Delaware Blue Hens 49 - Portland State Vikings 14

Lehigh Advances To NCAA Quarterfinals

<< Best wishes to you and Delaware >>

Thanks.

Sorry Y'all missed the excitement. Not televised. Had to have a ticket to watch yet another Blue Hen quest for a National NCAA I-AA championship. Maybe next week we televise.

>> Walsh says UD is best

Minutes after Tim Walsh's Portland State team had been eliminated Saturday from the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs, the Vikings coach issued a warning of sorts to the rest of the field.

He said he didn't believe it was fair to compare the University of Delaware to the remaining seven teams, but ...

"Obviously, they deserve every ranking that they've had this year," Walsh said of the No. 2-seeded Blue Hens, 49-14 victors over the Vikings at Delaware Stadium. "I thought all along they were probably the best team in the country.

"They're a great football team and they deserve to be where they're at."

That's an interesting observation from a coaching member of the Big Sky Conference, which this season produced the No. 1 tournament seed, Montana. The Grizzlies won the Big Sky title with an 8-0 record that included a 33-21 victory over Portland State in late October.

Montana's only loss was 10-9 to Hofstra, which Delaware defeated 44-14 two weeks later on Long Island.

Bring on the unbeaten Lehigh Mountain Hawks (11-0) of Bethlehem, PA, to UD Stadium next week. Not to be taken lightly, Lehigh has won 30 of 31. Lehigh plays in the Patriot League and beat Delaware 42-35 at UD Stadium last season. <<

The football season continues ....
