Dear Cheryl: I agree with you. I find it incomprehensible that people whom I respect as intelligent on this thread for reasons of political partiality cannot see the world wide picture and what is going on as a result of Gore's petulance. Now, no matter who wins, this Presidency will be a joke. Doesnt matter if I am right, it matters is that how it will be perceived. Take Iraq just as one example, do you think Saddam will feel more emboldened now? Do you think he will feel (rightly or wrongly) that this next President will lack the power of the office to whip Congress into backing his foreign affairs? Remember it is ONLY the President that handles Foreign matters on a day to day basis and anything big requires the approval of Congress. Thats just one uncertainty there now are SO MANY. I believe Gore did this first to win, barring winning second to destroy Bush's potential power. He may succeed in the former, though I doubt it now, but he certainly has succeeded in the latter. I imagin he feels pretty good about this, but what damage has he caused our nation in the process? History will tell and my prediction for you younger SI members to check me out on is this: Gore will not be looked at kindly by historians. JDN
