Dan, are YOU kidding me?

You example is speculative. I have a real example, 20 miles from me.

Two guys went to a $750k-$1mill home owned by a Doctor to make a delivery. They thought the place was so rich, they would rob it!

That evening, they came back with guns. The housekeeper answered the door, and screamed (whatever, a little murky here). Anyway, the Doctor, a crack shot, got his revolver (best money can buy? probably) and confronted the robbers. He shot both of them, one died, and the other was wounded. However, one of the robbers managed to shoot the Doctor dead. He is gone. Do not tune in next week. I think the wife was seriously wounded too. Protected his property alright. Those punks got theirs.

No matter how smart and well-armed you are, it is impossible to plan for EVERY malicious intent against us, with the idea that you can "get the drop" on the bad guy. This Doctor was a crack shot, in his own home. Let 'em take..what $2k of stuff. I think my life, calculated on my own terms, is far more valuable than the decision by some "in-the-moment" robber.

As a society, we should concentrate on lessening the probability that someone will need to use a gun to get what they want, for whatever reason. Europe has 1/100th the problem we have..it IS doable.

We have had numerous "home invasion" robberies in this area. Unlike television, where most people derive their memories, the "right" guys usually don't get harmed as badly as the wrong guys.

Do I have any idea how many crimes are prevented by guns? Yes, and if you go to ANY police department, they will let you know. I have, ..I suggest you NOT rely on television, and "Lethal Weapon 4" to create your philosophy.

Here is the "idea". For every crime "prevented", about 8-10 "accidents" and "innocents" are killed. Even by the police, who at least have constant training.

Ever read the "first day of hunting" report? Like the one about the guy who went tracking a deer in a large circle, took a shot at said deer, and winged his own mother cooking in her kitchen?? (Minnesota).
