It will be the vice president. If Gore would win, then the Republicans would take his seat, so it really doesn't matter for the senate.

True, the pressure is building, but it all depends on how he deals with it. If he concedes soon, he can leave with respect. Especially if he doesn't bitch about the election and the big mess it ended up being. A good strategist would have him congratulate Bush and take an honorable withdraw. IMVHO, no one will hold a grudge if he concedes after the hand counts. If he does try to go to the supreme court, he will be looked upon badly like you suggest.
