You wouldn't want that slower BIOS to be around when people were doing benchmarking would you? You could probably risk a little system instability for those trial systems. Then you could ship a slower BIOS that ran more stably.

Intel have it tough enough at the moment. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt on this one and assume the new BIOS was simply misplaced.
