A very sensible answer.
Despite their harsh (to us viewers) questions, they realize they will have to compromise to protect all Florida voters. Which includes them.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh; But you expect poise and, indeed, greatness from such people. You expect penetrating insight and quickness, elaborate ideas and polished speech. This was a let-down.

Furthermore, I agree with mph on the issue of outright hostility and bias being shown. It simply was not a proud moment.
