I think Bush blew it by hiding out at the ranch the first couple weeks while Gore was busy working through a strategy and in the field meeting with his advisors and the like...kinda tells ya what these two would be like in the WH.

We are just on different sides of the looking glass. As for legacy I could say the same things about Clinton/Gore.

There is no reason for Bush to give up. He has won both of the counts, and provided a fair recount occurs he will win the hand count. Throw in some military votes (and they will trust me, and fast) and it should be over.

Its really up to Gore. He needs to be a man. I do think its getting a little late in game to save Gore's career. They will argue that he couldn't get the job done the first time so why back the same horse.
