If you are just purchasing your computer for the next year and then you are going to throw it away or trade it in for a new P4 perhaps your argument make some sense. It is a reactionary attitude that is being promoted by AMDroids defensively that computers should just run Office Suite and should be designed to run old applications better. I use my computers for 3 or 4 years and I would certainly like to be able to take advantage of the new software and broadband capabilities that are coming out this year and in the subsequent years. The P4 really shines in streaming data applications over a broadband web and the multitasking applications. The overclockers are visionless "head cases" (from the Register-<g>) and are getting behind the times in their benchmarking activities.
