I agree that he is very capable, but how serious this is depends on how much longer Wilf wants to stay around and his health. Anyone can be replaced; the IP didn't go anywhere and the customers are still around; there are always concerns about succession; IMO this will pass.

Executive vice president John Daane, who heads the company's communications chip business, is leaving to become chief executive of an unspecified company.

Maybe Daane is the fall guy for the lack of LSI progress regarding CDMA sales... or maybe he can see the writing on the wall for their place in the 1X, 1XEV, 3X, and WCDMA world coming down the pike.
