My grandfather was in the navy over there and afterward skippered a ship for Swedish American Lines. During WW II he helped in the underground effort to get Jews to safety. He wasn't weak or lazy in any way.

But for some reason he believed the State should have a controlling influence over people's lives.

He didn't even change his tune when they virtually pauperized him when he retired. Stubborn bastards, they are.
