Compaq's Asia sales up 41 percent
By Bloomberg News

SINGAPORE--Compaq Computer, the world's No. 1 personal computer
maker, said its third-quarter revenue from Asia Pacific expanded 41
percent, putting it on track as one of the
company's fastest growing regions.

The increase came from more sales of
high-powered computers to run Internet sites,
Compaq said. Compaq's Asia Pacific region, which
excludes Japan and Greater China, made up about
6 percent of the company's $11.2 billion sales for
the three months ended September.

"That growth is propelled by very strong build up of
the Internet infrastructure particularly in Korea,
India and in some Southeast Asian countries,"
said Paul Chan, Compaq's Asia Pacific managing
director.

Compaq's sales gain from companies that need
more powerful server computers to run the Internet
become key as the number of online users expands in the region. Market
researcher IDC predicts online users in Asia outside of Japan to increase 34
percent each year to reach 95 million in 2004.

The increase in sales also tops out Compaq's 12 percent to 14 percent gain in
the first two quarters this year, one of the slowest-expanding international
markets for the Houston-based company.

Michael,
You beat me to the punch. I just sa the story and was going to post it. I think it's great!!

By the way, I never used a postage stamp when I was overseas. My return address was always a P O Box number in the US. The location of the P O Box depended on where I was located over seas. Some useful trivia for you.
