Mapfre's Nielsen on Phone-Equipment, Chip Stocks

On chip stocks:

``Chip shares are very much influenced by what happens in the U.S., where the market is very PC-centric. PCs are still a big chunk of their market, and demand there is slowing, but it's also becoming a smaller chunk of the market.

``There's a lot of bad news already discounted in the price. There's still very good growth and demand, and once people get over the fact that next year won't see a repeat of 2000's exponential growth, things don't look too bad. We'd settle for a growth rate of about 30 percent.

`There's very good growth and demand for the chips used in consumer goods, like mobile phones and DVDs.''

Nielsen said he likes STMicroelectronics NV and Analog Devices Inc., which both ``had good results and are improving market share.''
