<Don't you think that 4 pages of SPEC benchmark, which is the only benchmark other than Quake where P4 does well is quite a bit misleading?>

Jozef,

If, as you say, that is the only benchmark other than Quake in which the PIV does well then I think not including that benchmark is misleading. Don't you think that an accurate review of any product should include the best and the worst aspects of that product. I think Anand's article did a good job showing PIV's weaknesses and I don't think showing the few areas where it currently shows strength would be out of line.

I think that the tone of his review was such that a few spec benchmarks would not have affected it much and his conclusions at the end of the article leave no doubt that he is not pandering to Intel. Do you think those are the types of final words that Intel would want in reviews of their latest product?

Anand must walk a fine line, he must guard against being to generous on a given product but must also watch that he doesn't be too harsh. Again given the tone of the review and it's well balanced discussion of PIV's inherent weaknesses, shortcomings, and potential strengths I don't think it would have made him biased to throw the PIV a bone and include some spec scores. The fact is that PIV excels on certain spec benchmarks and hiding that fact by not including the PIV's strongest benchmarks, even if he hasn't ever included those benchmarks before borders on being AMD biased. (Which personally would be great from my perspective but I hope that you can understand it is not in Anand's interests as an objective reviewer)

The bottom line is that PIV's performance is not a simple picture, it excels on some tasks and flops on others, Spec scores are one of the few benchmarks where PIV shows some potential and from that perspective their inclusion in any review does not make that reviewer biased. It makes the review thorough. (as long as the reviewer objectively discusses the results and includes other benchmarks as well...Which Anand did)

RE:"I am still planning an apology (or a praise for the article), I just didn't get to it yet."

Praise would be adequate...not apology. Anand should be thanking you for giving him a wake up call.
