I understand why blacks do not want to be referred to as "colored people," but I think requiring me to call them "people of color" is going a bit too far.b) you state that West made his post "quickly and without any real malice"...how would you possibly know this unless you knew the man or his intentions? That was my point. If you would kindly reread my post you will note I said there was no apparent racial malice in the post. As a result, I am unable to judge West's intentions. I think you likewise are unable to legitimately judge his intentions, and so cannot well judge him a racist. We use the term "racist" as a cudgel too much against those with whom we disagree. David Duke is a racist. The guy who only thinks Jesse Jackson is an idiot is not a racist. Indeed, he very likely is quite brilliant.c) you state that West may in fact be a Southerner that has referred to blacks as coloured all his life....so that makes it OK??!! Perhaps not, but it helps us understand how some people use the term "colored" without being racist. And this is the point....and finally, d) you state that you are "downright cool"...ever hear the one about those who have it don't have to flaunt it? Indeed I have. I have also heard that "If you got it, flaunt it." I assure you, I got it. So I flaunt it. Seriously, I only said I was sensitive and cool as a joke. A few of the guys here who know me no doubt grinned wryly when they read me touting my sensitivity and coolness. Truth is, I could stand to be a lot more sensitive and cooler than I am.
