Elmer, Re: You can run old applications. I will run new ones.

In other words: "You can run all your applications on AMD's superior architecture. I will run SPEC."

Oh, and keep us updated when (or should I say if?) P4 optimized compilers for real applications become available.

What new one? First new compilers have to be written, tested, and implemented in the field. Then new applications have to be written, tested, and implemented in the field.

It will take years. I know of some sites that still install Office 97 on new machines instead of office 2000 to ensure compatibility. How long until office XXXX, where P4 is a help instead of a hindrance, is even available much less prevalent?
