Re: SpectraPoint Project End

Mark- I just happen to mention(three or four weeks ago) on this thread about MOT dropping their LMDS plans with Cisco. As MOT stated publicly on their latest CC, they are killing the Spectrapoint JV and are charging this expense to Q300 results. They only took about 20 seconds to cover it and I'm afraid I don't have the time marker of where they said it in the 1hr 15min CC. Here are some other links I dug up that help shed some more light on the issue. These are all public responses on the LMT so I'm assuming the posters don't mind.

Wi-Lan rockets on rumours of Cisco deal
Message 12102133 ...I'm assuming this deal did not happen and this one did:

didn't CSCO recently acquire a wireless lmds outfit whose wares are capable of up to 45 Mb/s?

You are thinking of the Spectrapoint joint acquisition by Motorola (81%) and Cisco (19%) from Bosch Telecom June 10th last year.

Both the LM-2000 and LM-3000 products provide highly efficient FDM/TDMA layers that deliver high quality services and efficient utilization of the network.

I really don't know much about OFDM but I thought SpectraPoint was FDM related. Even if it is, it may not be related to Wi-Lan. I'm fairly ignorant about the standards battle going on in fixed wireless world. So take my notes with a grain of salt.

I'm guessing, but do not know for certain, that SpectraPointe was killed because they couldn't get OFDM to work in the fixed wireless space.
