RE: SPEC
And to think, this benchmark suite was created to eliminate creative specmanship. Sigh. Your points are all good ones, as far as I know, the Intel compiler has, at best, limited uses outside of the SPEC benchmarks.

<I guess I should have added what my main objection of SPEC is. It is that the benchmark of the compilers as much if not more so that benchmark of the processors / architecture.>

Jozef,

My only problem with that is that none of us were complaining about such things when Athlon had the edge in SPEC benchmarks.

Regardless of the previous lack of complaints when Athlon was in the lead though you may have a point about compiler optimizations but since the big selling point of PIV is that it excels on optimized code and one of it's weaknesses is that it does not excel on unoptimized code that makes SPEC all that much better of a tool to show the contrasting performance of PIV on various types of code and applications.

But my point has nothing to do with SPEC, my point is that in my opinion Anand got a very bad rap and was put in a no-win situation. He is one of the best reviewers in my opinion and did not deserve the treatment that he recieved.
