I don't think the word colored carries a stigma so much as it does historical baggage - just like oriental.

I have been corrected by an Asian client of mine when I used the term oriental. She said artwork or rugs are oriental, and people are Asians. I would think it would be about the same as calling people colored vs. black. What you are clearly missing though, is their needs to be intent for it to be prejudice. Not knowing the current politically correct term does not count as racism. When a group is belittled by another (like being told they can't make it in America), that IS prejudice. I just think it is weird that the people who are being prejudiced against seem to like it.

Also, I accept your apology. I doubt however that your "offending" behavior is unintentional.
