I think the uncertainty about why TWO would leave simultaneously will hold it down for some time. It's not a common thing to happen.

They need to get exceptional replacements fast.

I've written it off as dead money, and will probably unload it for a tax loss (or just a loss in the case of my IRA shares) by the end of the year.

JMHO.

Smaller/ startup companies with the perception of having great potentials always try to attract leaders from established companies in Silicon Valley. The CFO is leaving for a small startup company that is in fiber-optic business, and it is needless to say the hype and the potential growth in the fiber-optic market (e.g. JDSU which incidentally I own and regretfully at an average of $81.5!).

As for Daane leaving to be the CEO of an unspecified company, well that company is either a high flyer telecommunication or a fiber-optic company. My guess is it is also in the fiber-optic business. It is a game that people play (especially if they are still young and willing to take huge risks). They want more money and more stock options. If the current company is not willing to give them what they ask (which usually is never enough) and if the company feels they are not worth what they are asking then they let them go do whatever they want with their careers.

I am convinced Wilf would have retained Daane at whatever he was asking to stay if he genuinely felt he was worth the money or stock options (or both), and instead he came to the conclusion that the business will be fine even without him. So let him go and wish him the best of luck.
