He did not casually dismiss the Confederate Flag issue. He said it was a local issue that didn't belong in a national campaign. Big difference.

This was precisely the correct answer though not the most politically wise one perhaps in retrospect since the Dems picked it up and demagogued it.

and casually dismissed the valid concerns against public funding of the Confederate Flag, he once again confirmed to many blacks the presence of a racist GOP streak.
