yes, that was more or less what i had in mind, and i agree with you it could be a particularly bad week instead of a single day event, in which case the volume increase wouldn't be that large on a single day.

the '82 low was much lower than generally thought in real terms, as inflation raged in the 70's. conversely, the lows made in the 30's were actually higher in terms of buying power than they appear due to general deflationary conditions.
