I agree with much of what you say except when you say that "the Bush lawyers spent all their time lecturing the justices about what the couldn't do". The Bush people had no choice. Do you sincerely think the Fla. Supreme Ct. had not made up its mind prior to the hearing? Do you sincerely think that the majority of the opinion had not already been written? The Bush people knew it had. They knew the score. Kangaroo Court. The only thing the Bush people could do is lay a predicate for Federal Appeal. Federal Appeals are based on the record of the State Court proceeding. Had the Bush people not provided strong prohibitions to the Court on their power to act, it would not be part of the record and therefore not useable by the Federal Courts. The way I see it, the Republicans did their best to create and preserve an appealable record, which is the best they could do under the circumstances.

JC, I sadly agree with you

when the DUI came out, all I could think about was the hounding the GDub ignored in the spring over past drug usage... he could have defused it in 3 stormy days... instead, he lost his 8-10% lead in the final days, resulting in perhaps 2-4 states (maybe even Florida)

tactically, the Bush team chose the high road of legal precision over groundwar maneuvering... Bush should have challenged every single county for a hand recount, EVERY SINGLE COUNTY... he could have generated additional votes from dents and hangers, just like Gore... now I find him not pursuing the disqualified military absentees vigorously at all

in front of the FL SupCourt, Bush chose to go with local Florida attorneys... Gore chose to hire the $800-per-hour high class strong attorney Boies... I said a couple times that Boies scares me... he did so because he had superior arguments throughout, very smooth, practical, and bruising in nature... the Bush attorney resembled Saturday Night Live Chris Farley too much, and his power of speech left much to be desired... he was far too repetitive, simplistic, and evasive of questions

so tactically, Gore wins
this aint over
but if the US people or military need low-down nasty utterly sinister behavior and tactics,
I TRUST GORE TO HIRE IT MORE THAN BUSH
