i would actually say it's OBVIOUS now that it was a hoax...after all, NOTHING happened, nowhere in the whole wide world. the most expensive hoax of all time...but great for upgrading the tech infrastructure.
however, the long term economic costs of the Fed flooding the system with money due to y2k will be felt for years to come. the NAZ blow-off cum crash is merely the first symptom...

Having worked over there and in some of the Pacific islands, having power go off as they do is a big deal if it happened in the major US cities. Trust me. When it is easier to hop in a car and drive 30 minutes rather than using a telephone, things slooooow down.

But you are right that it was somehow way overblown as a threat. Glad I have farmers and thousands of acres in my family so I don't have to wonder what to do if I had bought dozens of cases of spam. -g-
