The two defining moments of political hackness for me have been:

(1) Katherine "Kat" Harris denying the recounts based on ... on what? I don't believe she ever explained her "no" vote, did she? Perhaps the margins on the faxes were too narrow.

(2) Baker tonight inferring that the solution might be the Florida Assembly selecting its own electors.

That would be a fitting way for a new president to come into office -- elected on a straight party-line vote by a swampwater state legislature.

But I don't see that happening, simply because the Florida Supreme Court already did one pre-emptive strike of its own. There might be others.

I, too, was saddened by his descent into hackdom. I watched Hardball today: it had been suggested that it was inconsistent to hold intent higher than technical compliance and then suppress these votes, merely for electoral gain, and he blustered something about how it was a canard to accuse Democrats of being anti- military. No one had suggested that, merely that they were venal. It was a perfect attempt to put all questions in the wrong......
